Based on a true story, IN CLAY is a new one-woman musical told from a quaint Parisian apartment in the late 1930s. Marie-Berthe Cazin, a ceramist in her early 40s, eagerly awaits her estranged childhood friend, and now celebrated artist, Henrietta Tirman. Her imminent arrival pushes Marie to reflect on the great joys and sorrows of a life devoted to making art.
This critically-acclaimed production ended 7 April 2024.
IN CLAY is also accompanied by an exhibition celebrating contemporary women ceramicists, curated by Rose Gleadell. International in scope, In Clay: The Exhibition will shine a light on the ways in which women artists are making their mark on the medium. Amongst the twenty artists include Emily Myers, Ngozi Omeje, Ying Zheng, Venetia Berry, Maja Quille, Tessa Eastman, Iku Nishikawa and Rose Schmits.
IN CLAY has been invited to present at NAMT’s 36th Annual Festival of New Musicals at New World Stages in New York City, 24-25 October 2024.
Selected from over five hundred submitted musicals by the festival committee over the last six months, IN CLAY will perform as one of eight new musicals in front of an industry-only audience.
The festival boasts some incredible alumni; previously selected shows include Come From Away, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

In Clay in Concert at The Other Palace

The trio of Danielle Steers (The Cher Show, SIX, Bat Out of Hell), Alex Young (Standing at the Sky’s Edge, Anyone Can Whistle, Follies) and Roshani Abbey (Hamilton, & Juliet, Rumi: The Musical) shared the role of Marie-Berthe Cazin in this unique concert performance.
